Mastering the Art of Balance

Today I had the privilege of leading a workshop for professionals from the Rhode Island and Connecticut YMCA in Mystic focused on mastering the art of balance.
One of the biggest takeaways from our conversation was this: Balance does not happen by accident. It is built through intentional choices.
In a world that constantly rewards busyness, many people are operating without pause, without boundaries, and without the anchors that keep them grounded. But sustainable success requires more than achievement — it requires balance.
The art of balance means creating healthy boundaries around your time, energy, and priorities. It means recognizing that not everything deserves immediate access to you.
It also means identifying your non-negotiable anchors — the habits, people, and practices that keep you centered when life becomes demanding. Whether that’s family dinner, faith, exercise, reflection, rest, or simply disconnecting from work for a period of time each day, those anchors matter.
Balance is not perfection. It is alignment.
The people who thrive over the long term are not the ones who never stop moving. They are the ones who know how to recalibrate, protect their well-being, and lead with intention.
Because success is only truly meaningful when it is sustainable.
